Resorts World Sentosa Officially Opens Poker Room

The poker scene in Singapore just got a welcome boost today with the opening of Resorts World Sentosa’s long-awaited poker room. As the first legal poker room in the country, ‘Poker World’ opened for business at 12pm today and will be operating 24 hours, seven days a week for the foreseeable future.

As reported, the impending opening first came to Poker Portal Asia’s attention back in February 2012. At the time, a source said the poker room would be opening on March 5, 2012 but it’s believed that difficulties in government regulatory negotiations have been responsible for the delay.

Poker Room Manager, Nava Muniandi, confirmed the opening when Poker Portal Asia called up the poker room earlier today. At the time of writing, one table was running of the minimum SGD $5/$10 blinds with five per cent rake at a maximum of $50 per pot. The room has a capacity of seven tables with available stakes ranging anywhere from SGD $5/$10 to $500/$1000. When asked about tournament poker plans, Muniandi responded that they are looking to have sit ‘n’ go tournaments in the future but it’s dependent on ongoing regulatory discussions.

Notable Singapore player Bobby Cheong is one of those currently seated at the running cash table and has been keeping his ‘TeamSGPoker’ Facebook group members updated with posts.
