Half Kill – A 50% increase in the betting limits for a specific hand after some pre-specified criteria have been met
Half-Pot Limit – A limit game in which the maximum amount by which a bet, raise, or re-raise can increase the pot is set to no more than have the amount of chips or money in the pot
Hand – (1) A single round of game play; (2) A player’s best five cards
Head-to-Head – Happens when only two people are left playing poker; synonymous with “Heads Up”
Heads Up – When two people are playing poker one-on-one; synonymous with “Head-to-Head”
Hearts – One of the four suits in a deck
Heinz – A 5 and a 7 in the pocket, suited or offsuit
Help Card – A card that improves a player’s hand
High (in [card value]-High) – A hand with not even a pair in it, in which the card of greatest value (that which also determines the strength of the hand) is specified
High Card – A hand whose value is based solely on the greatest card value held
High Limit – A game involving huge amounts of money as wager
High Roller – A gambler who plays for huge stakes
High-Low – Split pot games
Hit – To be dealt a card that improves a player’s current hand
Hit and Run – To join a table then leaving immediately after winning an accumulated amount of money
Hold’em – Texas Hold’em: a poker variation in which players are dealt two down cards and five community cards
Hole Cards – The Down Cards: cards dealt to each of the players face down
Home Run Hitter – A player who makes risky calls and wins
Horsing – The act of passing a small amount of money to another player after winning a pot
Hot Deck – A lucky deck from which good hands are being dealt
Hot Hands – A run of hands of high value
Hot Streak – A run of winning hands
House – The casino or cardroom where a poker game is hosted
House Cut – Money taken from the pot as payment for hosting a tournament; synonymous with “Rake”
House Rules – A set of rules implemented in a casino or cardroom
Hunt – A request to see the next card or the remaining community cards when a hand ends before all cards are dealt
Hunting Season – An Ace and a 2 in the pocket, suited or offsuit
