Dead Blind – The mandatory amount contributed to the pot before any cards are dealt
Dead Card – A card that is not legally playable because it has been either fouled or held by an opponent
Dead Collection Blind – A fee made by the player who has the dealer button to the cardroom or casino, used as an alternative method to seat
Dead Game – A game where players are tight and passive — hence, not much betting, raising, and re-raising are happening
Dead Hand – A fouled hand that is ineligible of winning the pot
Dead in the Pot – A player who held on to a hand which happens to be beaten on the showdown

Deck – A set of playing cards
Deuce – A card with the rank two (2)

Dig – To add money or chips while a hand is ongoing
Discard Pile – The collection of cards that have been removed from players’ hands
Disconnect Protection – Applicable in online cardrooms: A tool used to protect players in case their internet connection fails where they are in a hand
Dog – (1) The pocket cards King and Nine; (2) An underdog
Dolly Parton – (1) A 9 and a 5 in the pocket; (2) A nine-high straight (9-8-7-6-5)
Dominating Hands – Hands that are initially good, yet are still up for improvement
Donation – Bet made by a player with little chance of winning
Donkey – A weak player who is not mindful of his moves
Door Card – Applicable in stud games: the first exposed cards
Double Belly Buster - A five-card combination from which two inside straights could be formed; i.e.: A-Q-J-10-8; synonymous with “Double Gutshot”
Double Bluff – A bluff done twice in a hand: on the initial bet and upon re-raising after a raise has been made by the opponent
Double Gutshot – A five-card combination from which two inside straights could be formed; i.e.: A-Q-J-10-8; synonymous with “Double Belly Buster”
Double Up – To double one’s chips in a single hand — after going all in and winning, that is
Double – Pop When a player re-raises the raise
Down Card – Cards that are dealt face down; synonymous with “Hole Cards”
Down to the Felt – Having no chips remaining at the table in one’s bankroll; Busted out; Going all-in; synonymous with “Down to the Green”

Doyle Brunson – A combination of a 10 and a 2; used exclusively with a 10 and a 2 in the pocket
Draw - (1) A tie: a situation in which the outcome is the same for two or more players; (2) To maintain a stake in the pot hoping that the cards to be dealt will complete a hand of a higher rank than the hand currently held
Draw Card - The card that has been obtained through the draw
Draw Game – A game where Draw Poker is played
Drawing Dead - Staying in the hand regardless of the fact that the current hand could never be the winning hand
Drawing Hand – A hand that is a few cards away from completing a flush, a straight, or a straight flush
Drawing Live – Maintaining eligibility to participate in the showdown while holding an incomplete hand that would win if completed
Drawing Thin – Staying in the hand regardless of being aware that only a few cards would provide a winning hand
Driver’s Seat – A player in the “Driver’s Seat” is the one who takes the initiative in all of the betting
Drop – (1) To fold; (2) To lose a specific amount of money or chips
Drop Out- To quit a hand by neither calling nor raising a bet; synonymous with “Fold”
Ducks – A pair of twos (2-2)
Duplicate - To have the same suit or number value in a player’s hand and at the board
